The Definition of a Champion: One that wins first place or first prize in a competition. One that is clearly superior or has the attributes of a winner: a champion at teaching. An ardent defender or supporter of a cause or another person: a champion of the homeless. One who fights; a warrior. Our Lake Mary Girls Basketball team are champions in every sense of the word. Not only are they 2010 State Champions and 2011 State Runner ups but they are also community leaders. They are women in the making that their school and community look up to.  They are a mix of honor roll students and various honor society participants. They volunteer in the community and take pride in being a Ram. As a parent of a player, I have seen these girls encourage each other and when one player is down, whether it be personal or  having a hard time at practice, they grab them by the arm and say let?s go you can do it. No one falls behind. Before every game they get together at a selected teammates home and eat dinner, do homework, talk and laugh. They want to make sure the bond remains strong. They honor their sister hood and sing an anthem before every game. This team is led by a team of Champions,Coach Weyers, Coach East brothers (Brandon and Gerard), Coach Lyons and Coach Baez. They all play a different and vital role in these girls? lives on and off the court. You hear them asking about their grades, how was their day and the girls always know that their coaches are there for them. We have a great group of parents that assist in the background giving, helping coach organize trips and assisting in any way they can. This combination of players, coaches, parents and our school administration makes our team Champions.
They are proud of their accomplishments on the court but they also understand that those accomplishments would not mean anything if they didn?t have character off the court. The seniors have led the team with pride and made sure they passed on what they learned to the underclassmen. The underclassmen will now take the lead and continue to be the Champions.  The Lake Mary Girls Basketball team is a unique and awesome unit. They make us proud because they are compassionate, have great character and they continue to teach us every day.
